I’m a fan of hot beverages as you might have noticed by the amount of coffee pictures on my Instagram. I go through phases of trying to drink less coffee and always mix in herbal tea in the afternoon, but I find the ritual of coffee or tea very cozy, warming and familiar. It’s as much of a social thing as it is just a general comfort. I drink coffee when I’m alone, but I love the ritual of having people over to have coffee and cake as well.
When in Copenhagen two weeks ago, I had the pleasure to visit Georg Jensen in Copenhagen. We were shown around in the smithy, where the bespoke silver pieces are made and had a look at the companies’ archive with age old sketches of Georg Jensen himself which showed the importance of heritage and tradition in the company, yet in a modern way. Some of the pieces produced in the smithy take up to 6 months to complete and require highly skilled silversmiths with years of training at Georg Jensen.
While in the Georg Jensen design studio, we were introduced to the new Helix collection by Oskar Kylberg, who is part of the design duo Bernadotte & Kylberg who created this new collection that is a perfect balance between form and function. Oskar told us about the design process, which very much went back to the basics of functionality, but they also meticulously designed the details so that the spout never drips and the product is easy to grab.
Once back home from Copenhagen, I was so happy to be trying out the Helix collection for myself. I love the high end look of the mirror polished stainless steel which is combined with simple shapes. The set consist out of 5 pieces (a tray, thermo jug, milk jug, tea pot and bonbonniere) which looks very luxurious and impressive when used all together. I think the set is great for if you have visitors and want to offer both coffee and tea and set the table nicely. When I’m working from home alone however, I will use the thermo jug only, which keeps my drink warm for up to six hours.
My favorite design detail about the collection is the little handle on the lid (it’s a Helix, hence the name of the collection as well). This subtile detail stands out so much as a design element and it lays in your fingers perfectly when opening the lid.
This blogpost was created in collaboration with Georg Jensen, however all opinions are my own of course. If you would like to know more about the brand and their new Helix collection, have a look on their website.
