Scarfes and Scotch: Whisky Masterclass at Scarfes Bar
Embark on an educational journey through Scotland’s most iconic spirit at Rosewood London’s ever-glamorous Scarfes Bar. Whether you’re a beginner or an aficionado, Scarfes Bar is the perfect place to learn about whisky, being home to one of the most impressive whisky collections in the capital. Hosted by resident Scot and whisky fanatic Craig Petrie, each masterclass will begin with an invitation to explore the towering Whisky Wall which greets visitors as they enter the bar, housing over 500 whiskies. This will be followed by a full induction into the world of Scotch whisky, alongside an open discussion abut how the geography of distilleries can change the taste of the liquids. Return of the Mac at The Cheese Bar
If you’re partial to a bowl of mac’n’cheese (who isn’t?), head down to Camden favourite The Cheese Bar, where a series of London restaurants have been invited to put their spin on the classic dish. The only rule? All cheese must be British. The stellar line-up includes a truffled number from Darby’s, a reimagining of Bleecker’s cult favourite Angry Fries, and a vegan creation from Club Mexicana, with each dish remaining on the menu for one week only. Anne-Sophie Pic at The Fount Bar
This October, Selfridges’ The Fount Bar sees a collaboration from two of the biggest names in the culinary and drinks world: seven Michelin-starred chef Anne-Sophie Pic and award-winning mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana, aka Mr Lyan. Anne-Sophie will be showcasing a trio of her famous Millefeuille, to be enjoyed alongside cocktails from the team at Mr Lyan Studio. Our top picks are the Pink Millefeuille, made with a beetroot and sherry vinegar jelly layered with Yellow Bourbon coffee cream, and Mr Lyan’s Carrara Spritz, mixed with Nordic Gin, bitter almond, grapefruit oils and Champagne. £35pp. Available throughout October.
L’Oscar Afternoon Tea with House of Ruinart
In celebration of Frieze Art Fair, L’oscar hotel has created a special version of their popular ‘Saint & Sinner’ afternoon tea in partnership with House of Ruinart, the official Champagne of the fair. Guests can tuck into Religieuse buns and sandwiches filled with poached salmon and virgin olive oil on beetroot bread, followed by sweet delicacies like ‘Devil’s Food Cake’ and ‘Adam and Eve’s Pudding’. Your drinks choice will determine whether you’re a saint or a sinner: will you go for a cup of tea, or a glass of Ruinart Rosé poured from the Magnum? Paella Masterclass at Arros QD
Learn the secrets behind paella making at Arros QD, which recently became the second restaurant outside of Spain to win Wikipaella’s Culler de Fusta, an award given to the best paella restaurants round the world. Guests will learn the tricks of the trade from Head Chef Richard De La Cruz, before sitting down to a sumptuous tasting menu paired with Spanish wines – all to the sound of a live guitarist. £80pp. Book here
Santiago Lastra’s Supper Club Series at Mimo London
Ahead of the highly anticipated opening of his debut restaurant Kol, Mexican chef Santiago Lastra will be giving Londoners a taste of his acclaimed cooking at cookery school Mimo London. Santiago made his name following stints at restaurants including Mugaritz in San Sebastian and the Nordic Food Lab in Copenhagen – and he has cooked in more than 25 countries over the past three years, earning him the title of ‘The Nomadic Chef’. Across October and November he will be presenting a series of eight supper clubs from the open kitchen and dining space overlooking Borough Market, all of which will involve a six-course menu alongside a cocktail from Oaxacan mezcal producers Dangerous Don – with the option to try a preview of the eclectic wine list due to feature at Kol, opening in London in early 2020. £60pp. Selected evenings from 19 October-11 November.
Matcha and Beyond’s Matcha Masterclass
Curious about all things matcha? Head to King’s Road cafe Matcha and Beyond for a masterclass in the popular green brew, famed for its plethora of health benefits and popping up everywhere from lattes to brownies. Founder Olivia Nottin will begin the evening with an introduction to the history behind matcha including its production in Japan, before demonstrating the best way to prepare it. Guests will then have a chance to create their own drink using a selection of differently graded matcha, with plenty of sweet treats to try throughout the evening. £25pp. 22 October, 6pm.
Le Pont de la Tour’s Truffle Hut
Celebrate the beginning of cosy season with a trip to Le Pont de la Tour’s famous Truffle Hut, a rustic riverside retreat decked out with faux fur, hanging lights and seasonal greenery. Champagne Friends at bubbledogs
Following its reopening earlier this year, Fitzrovia bar bubbledogs is launching a new series in which a programme of guest sommeliers put their stamp on bubbledogs’ celebrated Champagne list. Some of the capital’s most popular wine bars will be making an appearance, including P. Guest Dish Series at The Cinnamon Club
Celebrate grouse season with some of the city’s most talented chefs at renowned Indian restaurant The Cinnamon Club, where Executive Chef Vivek Singh will be teaming up with Ollie Dabbous (HIDE), Marcus Wareing, and Brett Redman (Jidori) to showcase the myriad ways game can be cooked. Each chef will create a special dish, starting with Ollie’s quirky take on traditional venison cookery: spiced venison loin cooked over charcoal with fennel yoghurt, pumpkin and pistachio pilaff. Next up is Marcus with a wild mallard glazed with juniper, black pepper, orange and roasted pumpkin, followed by a seasonal twist on Jidori’s signature skewer from Brett. Each will be available alongside The Cinnamon Club classics for a two-week period. 30 September-10 November.
Smoke Sundays at Honey & Smoke
Grill house Honey & Smoke is celebrating its third birthday with Smoke Sundays: a series of three special feast events in collaboration with three of their favourite fire-loving chefs. Founders Sarit Packer and Itamar Srulovich will be joined by award-winning food writer and chef Olia Hercules on 13 October, co-founder of Smoking Goat, Brat and Kiln Ben Chapman on 20 October, and River Cottage chef Gill Meller on 27 October. Each will join Sarit and Itamar for a live recording of their celebrated podcast, Honey & Co: The Food Talks, before taking to the grills to cook a one-off sharing feast. £35pp. 13-27 October.
‘Not Native’ Chef Series
True to their ethos of using only British, seasonal produce, London Bridge restaurant Native is introducing a new guest series, designed to change people’s perceptions of what’s edible out there. They’ll be inviting chefs from across the UK to collaborate on a series of tasting menus using ingredients considered ‘invasive’ to the UK – from Japanese Knotweed to Signal Crayfish. The series kicks off on 30 September with Sam and Alicja of Whole Beast, followed by food writer Olia Hercules on 7 October, the Carcass Cartel on 21 October (including Adam Handling and Budgie Montoya), and food waste activist Tom Hunt on 25 November. 30 September-25 November.
Artesian Takeover at The Langham
This autumn, The Langham’s cocktail bar Artesian will be hosting a series of takeovers from internationally renowned bars around the world. Running in conjunction with London Cocktail Week (4-13 October), they’ll be welcoming bartenders from as far flung as Shanghai to the UK’s own Sheffield, who will each create a special menu featuring five popular cocktails from their bar. These include Guangzhou’s first speakeasy Hope & Sesame (18 September), Singapore’s Manhattan Bar (2 October), Athens hotspot The Clumsies (5 October) and many more. 18 September-10 October.
Dinner with Friends at Red Rooster
As the London go-to for Southern soul food (think crispy fried chicken, collard greens and other wholesome grub) coupled with exciting live music, Red Rooster is no stranger to good food and a good time, but the restaurant’s ‘Dinner with Friends’ series takes the dining experience to a whole new level of deliciousness. The acclaimed supper club sees Red Rooster’s Culinary Director, Marcus Samuelsson, collaborating with a new chef each time to dish up culture mash-ups, serve unexpected delicacies and above all host a night of exceptional food, fantastic company and superlative entertainment. The next ‘Friend’ on the agenda is renowned chef Shaun Whitmore (who has worked with Hix, Jamie Oliver’s restaurant group and Patty & Bun). Together the duo will be cooking up an exciting blend of American and British Soul Food with highlights including a baller donut, preserved lemon crema and caviar, fish taco injera with wasabi aioli – paired with a refreshing Veuve Cliquot rosé champagne cocktail.
