How To Celebrate Easter Weekend 2020

For many, Easter weekend is going to look a little different this year. We won’t be jetting off for a mini-break, we won’t be out enjoying the Bank Holiday with friends, and we won’t be dining out for an Easter Sunday roast. But fear not: there are plenty of ways to celebrate at home, from egg painting to baking to creating your own home bar. And, of course, you can eat chocolate wherever you are.

Baking

Whip up some Easter treats for the family, such as these chocolate fondant eggs from master chocolatier Paul A Young. Hot cross buns are another way to get in the Easter mood – we love this recipe from renowned chef Tom Aikens. And for the seasoned bakers among you, try your hand at one of these advanced chocolate recipes from Pierre Hermé, taken from his book, Chocolate. If you’re after a bit of video guidance, Bread Ahead are streaming live baking classes via their Instagram too.

Easter egg hunt

While big Easter gatherings are clearly out of the question this year, you can still set up an Easter egg hunt in your own home and garden. To make things easier, order this kit from Talking Tables, which contains eight treat bags, six egg hunt clues, six signs and four sets of bunny footprints – perfect for little ones. Amazon sells a whole host of Easter egg hunt craft kits too, including basket decorating kits, though be sure to order in advance as delivery times are longer than usual at the moment. Top tip: the hunt doesn’t end until the last egg is found, so count the eggs before you hide them and keep track as each one is found.

Get crafty

Egg decorating

Painting eggs is an Easter tradition that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, hence the new ‘invisible’ eggs from Deliveroo, which come in both chocolate and Cointreau flavours. Each one is translucent and packaged with three pots of edible decoration and art supplies, so you can glitz up your egg before nibbling it down.

Eat lots of chocolate

If there’s one time of year to feast on chocolate until your heart’s content, it’s Easter. Many chocolate shops are still open for delivery – check out this round up for our favourites, and don’t miss our guide to the best luxury eggs on the market – our favourites are Pierre Marcolini’s Le Grand Lapin and Pump Street’s adorable chocolate chickens.

Have a picnic in your garden

If the weather plays ball, why not set up a picnic in the garden? Make it ultra-chic by ordering one of these stylish outdoor dining sets and a cosy rug to go with it. Check out these recipes and tips for inspiration.

Make a roast

Roast

There’s nothing like a home-cooked Sunday roast to lift spirits. Why not cook up Gill Meller’s roast partridge with sage, thyme and cider? Or Michael Wignall’s lamb with creamed kale and roasted pumpkin? Whichever meat you go for – or if you’re cooking up a veggie feast – be sure to check out DUKES LONDON chef Nigel Mendham’s top tips for creating the perfect roast potatoes.

Create a home bar

We won’t be able to enjoy that staple Bank Holiday pub trip this year, so why not bring the bar to you? We’ve put together a guide to creating your own home bar, including tips on the space, the theme, the products, and of course the drinks. Time to mix up some quarantinis!
