Hotel of the Week: Hotel Tresanton – St. Mawes, Cornwall

With fabulous views over Falmouth Bay, Tresanton became a landmark when hotelier Olga Polizzi created the first truly fashionable and chic British seaside bolthole. Now in its 21st year, the hotel effortlessly continues to hold its own without any of the pretension of more recent, glossier addresses…

Indeed, with the addition of its Beach Club –  ideal for lounging in the sun or eating gourmet burgers – it has never been better. Bedrooms are engaging and stylish and there’s a ship’s deck of a terrace. But the hotel also has cosiness, underpinned by professional service from waiters in white, silver-buttoned jackets.

As well as the bedrooms in the main house, there are three each in separate Rock Cottage and The Nook. These fabulous suites are perfect for families, while the master suite in Rock Cottage has a wood burner and crow’s nest terrace. As for the locally sourced food, it’s served in a magical Mediterranean room, sunlit by day, candlelit by night.

Take the ferry to Falmouth. The 20 minute journey takes you across Falmouth Bay past two castles. When you disembark at the Prince of Wales Pier we recommend you turn right and explore High Street. The cluster of little shops, bakeries and cafes are delightful.

Oyster’s from the Beach Club Oyster Bar from 6-8pm as the light fades over the bay.

NOTA BENE

The hotel’s 8m yacht, Pinuccia, designed by Vincenzo Vittorio Baglietto to represent Italy in the 1939 World Cup, was allegedly once owned by Mussolini.
