This is when you should be buying your Christmas tree according to an expert

November might seem a little early to be thinking about Christmas trees. However, current circumstances have made planning ahead for the festive season essential, especially when it comes to deciding when to buy a Christmas tree.

If you love the pine scent of a real tree that you are probably working out the best time to get one so that it is still flourishing for New Year. The plant experts at Flowercard have shared their expertise on when to buy a real Christmas tree.

‘The day you buy your Christmas tree is one of the most important decisions if you want to make sure it’s still intact throughout the festive season,’ explains Liam Lapping from Flowercard.

His advice is to order your tree on the 28th November, if you plan to take it down straight after New Year’s Eve. ‘We will still be in lockdown in England so it’s important to order in advance if you want your tree to arrive in time,’ he warns.

However, if you plan to take your tree down later, you can wait to buy it on the 2nd of December. ‘If you take your Christmas tree down on the Twelfth Night, then you should buy your tree on the 2nd December,’ he explains.

‘Typically real Christmas trees last 4 to 6 weeks if they are looked after properly. So it’s important you buy your Christmas tree at the right time to avoid a sad-looking, needleless tree for Father Christmas to leave the presents under.’

To make sure your Christmas tree lasts the festive season – no matter what day you buy it on – start by making sure you pick a healthy-looking tree. Make sure the needles are green and shiny, and not many fall off when you give the tree a shake.

Be careful about where you place your tree. Keep it somewhere cool so that it doesn’t dry out too quickly. Remember to water your tree with about 3 pints of water a day.
