How Will Restaurants Look Post-Lockdown?

A snapshot into what we can expect from restaurants post-lockdown…

Thermal cameras for temperature checks, air filtration units and QR code ordering systems: just a few of the measures currently being put into place as restaurants across the country prepare to re-open their doors after months of hibernation. This follows Boris Johnson’s announcement yesterday, which stated that restaurants, pubs and cafes can open again from Saturday 4 July. But while the two-metre distancing rule has been relaxed to one, there will be considerable restrictions in place – prompting the big question: what will dining out look like in 2020? Here we highlight how some of the restaurants reopening plan to operate post-lockdown.

The Ivy Chelsea Garden

The Ivy Chelsea Garden

The prettiest branch of the Ivy restaurant empire is in a good position to re-open, thanks to its newly refurbished garden, which allows ample al fresco dining. Restaurant staff are also putting a range of health measures into place. Thermal cameras for temperature checks are being installed, and employees will log daily temperature readings, with professional deep cleaning and disinfecting happening on a daily basis. Air filtration units have also been fitted, said to be 99 per cent effective in killing the MRSA and H1N1 viruses, which are part of the same RNA coronavirus family. theivychelseagarden.com

HIDE

Hide

Sprawled across three floors on Piccadilly, Ollie Dabbous’ HIDE certainly has space on its side. At the moment, staff envision only having to remove six tables to accommodate customers at a safe distance – and there are five private dining rooms, which will inevitably see increased interest. It will look a little different on arrival though, as cutlery and napkins will be brought out at the same time as meals. And, going against the age-old fine dining tradition, wine will be left on tables for guests to pour themselves. Not enough for you? Fear not: at the time of booking all customers will be asked if there’s anything staff can do to make them feel more comfortable during their visit. hide.co.uk

Wild By Tart

Lucy Carr-Ellison and Jemima Jones’ farm-to-table restaurant is re-launching as an outdoor pop-up in Eccleston Yards. To reduce contact time with staff, guests will place food and drink orders on their phones via a QR code system. Tables will be spaced out adhering to social distancing rules, and each table will have its own hand sanitiser and biodegradable napkins, which will be disposed with after each sitting. Diners can expect the same locally, seasonally inspired menu seen in the original venture, with all ingredients hand grown at the culinary duo’s respective family farms in Northumberland and Somerset. wildbytart.com

The Mandrake Hotel

The Mandrake

The ultra-cool Mandrake Hotel is taking a slightly different approach by launching ‘The Mandrake Cabanas’, available for hosting private groups throughout the summer. These tropical havens will offer table service of their South American-inspired menu, and come with TV screens allowing guests to choose their own music or entertainment. themandrake.com
