Summer holiday cancelled? Transport yourself to Tel Aviv – through your tastebuds. Erev, the new dining experience from Borough Market’s Shuk, is collaborating with vegetarian Middle Eastern restaurant Bubala to create an Israeli-inspired menu. Drawing on the street food of Tel Aviv, the evening will feature dishes such as aubergine carpaccio with zhoug and smoked almonds, and roasted broccoli with tahini yoghurt. Recently launched at Portobello Dock is JOY: a temporary hub of food and flowers from chef Stevie Parle and designer Tom Dixon. There’s an outdoor restaurant, FLORA, a fresh produce shop selling meats, fish and vegetables, a natural wine bottle shop, a honey store and a bee-friendly garden filled with dahlias. FLORA serves a daily changing menu of seasonal dishes, such as grilled sea bass with romesco sauce, vegan ‘meatballs’, and chicken cooked over wood stuffed with ricotta. joyatportobello.co.uk

Kricket’s 2020 Guest Chef Series

World-renowned chefs Vivek Singh, Nuno Mendes and Andrew Wong will be cooking at Will Bowlby’s Indian restaurant Kricket this September as part of the restaurant’s new guest chef series. This follows the success of last year’s events, which saw the team raise over £3,000 for Apne Aap Women’s Collective, the anti-trafficking charity which serves the women and children of Kamathipura, the red light district of Mumbai. Dine on French-inspired dishes amid the serenity of West London’s Chelsea Physic Garden at The Racine Revival, which will see Henry Harris bringing back much-loved London restaurant Racine back for one day only. Guests can book a four-course lunch (£70pp) or dinner (£80pp), a Cook’s Table experience (£110) or a picnic hamper (£40) to enjoy at your own pace within the gardens. Swimming into Mayfair this August is the Seven Seas Series, an immersive entertainment and dining experience running on Thursday evenings for four weeks. Mystical mermaids and sea creatures will be roaming around, live DJs will be spinning the decks and dancers in glittering costumes will sashay through the restaurant. Alongside this, guests will be able to feast on a selection of Sexy Fish favourites including fresh sushi, wagyu beef and prawn gyoza, alongside a new cocktail menu created with The House of Suntory. Cool down in the heatwave at Skye Gyngell’s Spring in Summer, a pink shipping container opening in the courtyard of Somerset House this week. Available refreshments will include seasonal ice creams, ice lollies, granitas with softly whipped Heckfield Home Farm cream and cold chocolate drinks. After something more substantial? The next guest chef residency at Mortimer House offers diners the chance to enjoy vegan delights from Hackney’s much-loved Chinese restaurant Mao Chow. Chef Julian Dennis and his team will be setting up camp in Fitzrovia for just four days in August, serving up a menu of new dishes such as Dongpo Tofu: braised tofu with jasmine rice, and Xiao Mian, numbing oil and garlic noodles with tempeh and chickpeas. 20 – 23 August. mortimerhouse.com

Eggslut x Bompas and Parr

An egg-shaped dining booth is popping up in Fitzrovia this week as part of the launch of eggslut’s new branch on Percy Street. A collaboration with immersive culinary masterminds Bompas and Parr, the pod will host several activities over the coming weeks  – including a live morning DJ set this Friday – as well as being open for individual bookings. La Pilarica

Chefs Federico Perez Diaz and Michael Kutziola met while running Marco Pierre White’s Frankie’s Bar and Grill in 2010. The pair have been working in restaurants together ever since, and now they’re launching their first pop-up as a duo, La Pilarica. Launching on 23 July at Loafing Café, Well Street Hackney, the residency’s prime focus is slow cooked sous vide meats, which are cooked for 24 hours in La Pilarica spices to enhance flavour and tenderness. Cheese fans: this one’s for you. This August, founder of The Cheese Bar Mathew Carver is launching a series of all-you-can-eat cheese events, all in the name of supporting small cheesemakers. From 8 August, Seven Dials Market’s Pick & Cheese will be loading up their famed conveyer belt, offering diners the opportunity to go bottomless for £20pp for an hour and 15 minutes. Meanwhile in Camden, The Cheese Bar is bringing back their bottomless raclette nights every Wednesday evening, serving unlimited plates of hot melted Ogleshield cheese with Cornish new potatoes, Crown & Queue glazed ham and cornichons. This is being offered for just £9pp for an hour and a half (normally £18pp). Bottomless plates at Pick and Cheese will run Friday – Monday throughout August. Giz & Green at Passo Shoreditch

Chef Gizzi Erskine and musician Professor Green have joined forces to launch a pop-up concept at Old Street’s Italian-inspired restaurant Passo. This follows their weekly lockdown Instagram mini-series, in which Professor Green was taught how to make his favourite takeaways by Erskine. Highlights from the menu include the classic Hawaiian, pepperoni and veggie stuffed crust pizzas, all made using white rye sourdough from local bakery heroes Breadstation. passorestaurant.com
