DIY painted leather chairs and sofa now match grey interiors – for under £20!

What a transformation. These once red PU leather tub chairs now match the rest of the grey decor perfectly, thanks to a tin of £17 paint. Just goes to prove that painting leather chairs is possible, and more than worth it when on a budget!

Another paint idea: See how an easy hack can totally transform a dated sofa – you won’t believe the results

The savvy painted leather chair makeover is the work of Suzanne Green. She proudly shares her before and after chairs with the Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It Facebook group. saying,’ ‘2 seater and 2 chairs bought for £45. Chuffed with the outcome’.

The savvy, budget-friendly transformation has been met with an abundance of adoring comments and reactions, and rightly so…

Before and after: Painted leather chairs and sofa

What a before and after! The difference is undeniable. The tub chairs and two-seater sofa are totally transformed from the bold red colour with pine legs. The whole set, sourced for just £45 from Facebook Marketplace, is now a more sophisticated shade of grey, with black legs adding an stylish accent.

Before painting Suzanne explains ‘I sugar-soaped, lightly sanded and wiped them down’. Suzanne used the much-loved Frenchic Alfresco range to paint the set. The grey shade used is ‘Swanky Pants’. Using 3/4 of a £17 tin, by our calculations Suzanne has spent just £62 to make this set look like new.

When asked by fellow members of the group about the painted finished cracking Suzanne replies,’Go on the Frenchic Fan Forum. On here and people have done their full suites, and ask them if they have cracked etc. Mine was fine yesterday and didn’t look or feel like it would crack. It is for a garden pub that we are in the process of building so we are not too bothered.’

The interiors the seating set has been painted to match is actually an outdoor project, still in progress.Brilliantly Suzanne is in the process of fashioning a pub in her garden, handy right now! No closing at 10p.m curfew for this household.

Ideal Home asked, intrigued by the painted finish, how do the chairs feel after painting? Suzanne tells us, ‘Smooth to touch and a smooth finish as you can see in the pictures. They don’t feel any different when sitting on them.’

The Top 10 Things You Loved And Bought Last Month: October Edition (Plus one Big Ticket Item We Did NOT Expect But 100% Approve)

Happy Saturday folks. Today we are back with a new favorite series of ours (here was last month’s). It’s one where we get to really analyze what products you guys loved and bought via the site and it happens to be delightful and intriguing data to compile. I am not one that is blessed with a “number crunching” brain but this type of data is FASCINATING to me. It is really fun seeing what you guys click on and it helps us understand what type of product recommendations you want to see from us in the future. It is also super validating when one of us recommends something we love and you all trust us enough to try it out yourself. Not to mention, there is a bit friendly competition around here to see who’s recs made it to the top 10 🙂 So, let’s get to it, shall we?

10. Ceramic Minimalist Vase

Ironically, when Mallory talked about this vase in this controversial post last week, the comments suggested y’all were not on board with these Instagram trends. But this vase was clearly an exception and I totally get why. It is beautiful, minimal, sculptural, and reasonably priced plus it would look GORGEOUS on this foam table, no?? 😉

9. Sequin Unicorn Tulle Long Sleeve Dress

I am not surprised this little number made the top 10 list. This unicorn tulle dress is so dang cute and happens to be one that Miss Elliot Henderson won’t take off. It is sparkly AND has a unicorn. Plus it was one of her birthday presents so maybe the strategy is to never take it so her birthday never ends?? True genius. Regardless of a potential secret plan, it’s a slam dunk for any unicorn loving kid.

8. Harriet Pleated Floor Lamp

I am so pleased you guys liked this one as much as I did. I was contemplating purchasing this one but ultimately went with this Harriet Pleated Floor Lamp for my living room and I can tell you I made the right choice. It is a real beauty in person and looks perfect next to my beloved article sofa. Also, if you look in the comments the woman who actually DESIGNED this beauty, Ellen, commented. WHAT?? I still can’t get over it.

7. Women’s V Neck Bra

Just judging from the product photo, this bra looks like the most comfortable bra ever, but luckily both Jess and Emily can personally attest that it is an absolute game-changer. Emily first brought our attention to it in this post and convinced us ladies with larger “ladies” that it is the one “bralette” that truly works. Naturally, Jess loves it so much she bought herself 3 so she can always have them in rotation. Oh, and did I mention it’s only $23??

6. Cheri Longline Cardigan

Caitlin recommended this guy when we all rounded up our favorite cardigans and it is the perfect blend between coat and snuggly cardigan — AKA it is ideal for zoom meetings where you are rocking business on top and pajamas on the bottom or a quick run to the grocery store. Honestly, it’s ideal for nearly every setting.

5. Samsung Frame TV

This one was a bit of a shock only because big ticket items rarely make the top 10 list. But that aside, the Frame TV is a long time EHD favorite. They aren’t lying when they say it’s the most beautiful TV in the world. Plus remember when Em did that awesome partnership with them? I mean who could forget this incredible 120-year barn makeover (one of my personal favorite EHD projects), the idyllic, serene greenhouse makeover, the boathouse transformation, and of course the very fun and bold barge. Clearly, we are huge advocates of it and it is A GREAT investment if you are in the market for a new TV that will blend seamlessly into your decor.

4. Frisco Eyelash Cat & Dog Bolster Bed

It is pretty common knowledge here at EHD that Caitlin has the cutest most snuggly cat. We often see her waltzing over her owner’s keypad just because she needs some love and affection. So, of course, Caitlin treats her to the most snuggly cat bed of all time. To be fair, if I were a cat or dog I would want to cozy up in one of these (who am I kidding, I’d want to as a human as well).

3. Eve Pump

Emily has had these pumps for a while now and I believe they first made their debut in this fashion post where she coined the name of her boss lady alter-ego “THE CLOSER”. These are seriously power heels and when they went on sale Mal jumped at the opportunity to snag them, and apparently many of you did too. 🙂 (Oh, and if you are a size 10 and want the white ones, they are available here).

2. Clarte Short Tumblers

I was also #emfluenced when Emily recommended these $8 (!!) 4 pk tumbler glasses. Emily explained that for the longest time she was ordering these Marta glasses becuase they were modern, delicate, and were the perfect size. However, they would break sooo easily. She thought there was no solution until these babies came along. Basically exactly the same but thicker! As someone who has broken a glass (or 50) in my day, I ordered them so fast once Emily vouched they are the perfect everyday glass and they DON’T break.

1. High-Rise Skinny Jeans in Danny Wash

These jeans have been selling for weeks and we totally understand why. Jess rocks them in this post and describes them as THE perfect skinny jeans. According to her they are the perfect high rise height, are super comfortable and the wash is awesome. So again, THE perfect skinny jeans.

Annnd there you have it. These are our top 10 sellers and I am dying to know if you purchased any of them and if so, have they lived up to our hype?? Let us know below and have a lovely weekend and a HAPPY HALLOWEEN. xx

In case you missed it, check out what you bought and loved last month here.

What should I look for in a new vacuum cleaner?

You’re going to want to spend £150 for a good-quality cordless vacuum that can clean up properly – although with the Black Friday discounts on offer here, you might sneak that quality for less. If you invest more, you might get stronger, more consistent cleaning power, a longer batter life, and some very helpful tools.

Read our buying guide for more advice: Best cordless vacuum cleaners – the top cable-free stick cleaners

Ideally, you’ll want a few tools that are stored onboard your vacuum. That way, you’ll be able to make a quick draw and switch, sharp shooter style, when you spot a cobweb up high or need to clean upholstery.

One other feature worth going for is a HEPA filter. This removes tiny particles from the air that can aggravate breathing issues such as asthma.

Interview with The Spanish Princess’ Georgie Henley

Historical dramas are all the rage right now, and The Spanish Princess is about as juicy as they get. The Starz series looks at the tragic love story of Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII from a new vantage point: from the perspective of the women involved. It’s back for a second series, and one of its stars, Georgie Henley – who plays Margaret Tudor, Queen of Scots – is here to give us the lowdown. Henley, 25, rose to fame in her role as Lucy Pevensie in Andrew Adamson’s much-loved trilogy The Chronicles of Narnia. Since then she’s also starred in Caryn Waechter’s 2014 thriller The Sisterhood of Night and Bryn Higgins’s comedy feature Access All Areas in 2018, as well as making her stage debut in Philip Ridley’s monologue series Angry.

Georgie Henley

What can you tell us about the new series of The Spanish Princess?

The new series follows the demise of the relationship between Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII. There’s been so much time dedicated to Henry, and actually Anne Boleyn, but not so much the other women in his life. I play Margaret ‘Meg’ Tudor, who is Henry’s sister and also the Queen of Scotland. She’s trying to keep the peace in her country and protect her children, meanwhile experiencing passion and betrayal and heartbreak. It’s exceptionally juicy.

The series is told from the perspectives of the female characters. What’s the significance of this?

It’s so important to interrogate history and the accounts that we’re given, and to excavate the stories which haven’t been told before. I’m in awe of the hoops these women had to jump through to be taken seriously, to balance motherhood and politics, to have their voices heard. I think so many women who watch the show will be able to relate to the task of juggling multiple responsibilities. It’s even more important not to whitewash history, and I’m so glad that we tell the story of Lina, who is played so beautifully by Stephanie Levi-John.

Role you’d cut your right arm off to get?

I would love to play Janis Joplin.

Director you’d most like to work with and why?

If I had to pick one, I’d say Lynne Ramsay. Her work is so uncompromising and exhilarating, there’s no fear.

What qualities do you think have made you successful?

I’m still convinced that any success I have is a total fluke, but I try to have a lot of positive energy when I’m working which I think people like. I’m very polite thanks to my parents, and I’m a good listener.

Film you think everyone in the world should see?

Disclosure. It’s a documentary on Netflix about the representation of trans people in the media, on how irresponsible portrayals lead to stigma, violence, persecution, and what we can do to make better work, and be better allies. Essential viewing.

Favourite person on the set of The Spanish Princess and why?

I had most of my scenes with Andrew Rothney who plays Angus Douglas, and he’s just the bees’ knees. He does a stellar Alan Partridge impression which comes in very handy if you’re cold, tired or stressed and need a chuckle.

What’s your relationship with social media like?

Complicated. I try to hold it at a reasonable distance, but like anyone can easily find myself going down an Instagram rabbit hole every now and again. I got Twitter when I was 20, and then Charlotte Hope helped me set up my Instagram when we were filming the first series of The Spanish Princess. I make a conscious effort to only follow accounts that I find inspiring or nourishing or funny or thought-provoking, nothing that’s going to make me feel bad about myself. If I had a child, they wouldn’t have social media until they were 16, or even 18 – no ifs or buts.

The Spanish Princess

What did you want to be when you were a little girl?

A friend asked me this when they were writing the companion book for the first Narnia film and I think my answer was ‘actor, writer, professional cartoonist’. So, two out of three isn’t bad. I can’t even draw stick men now so probably for the best.

If you could give advice to your 15-year-old self, what would it be?

Stop worrying so much! And don’t pick your spots.

Three books you’d take to a desert island and why?

This is an impossible question! My bookshelves are crammed. If I’m on a desert island I am most likely in some kind of peril so first would be When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön, which I always return to, funnily enough, when things fall apart. Then definitely some poetry. Sharon Olds’ Odes so I could remember all the lovely nooks and crannies of other humans. Then The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson, because it’s everything.

Georgie Henley

How can we all live a little bit better?

I think we could all do with being a lot more compassionate, to others and to ourselves. Also recycle!

What is your current beauty regime?

I’m a total skincare nut. I went through a stage of having quite bad skin when I left university so I have to stay on top of a regime to keep everything in check, but it’s best to keep things as simple as possible! Vitamin C, moisturiser, lashings of SPF50.

If we’re coming to your area for a visit, what should we do?

Easy. Eat pancakes at The Breakfast Club, mooch down the market on Camden Passage and then head to Screen on the Green to see a film – book a sofa so you can be extra comfy post-feasting.

Are you a rule breaker or a rule taker?

I am 100 per cent a rule taker. I don’t think I even got one detention at school but I’ve played a few rule breakers and they are so much more fun!

Thirties Interior Inspiration For 2020 Homes

The 2020 challenge to Alfred Hitchcock’s adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca received a mixed reception – but one thing we can all agree on at Country & Town House HQ is the mastery of the set design. Segueing from the technicolour 1930s grandeur of the French Riviera to du Maurier’s beloved Cornwall, the ornamented terraces of Monte Carlo give way to the atmospheric and ghostly setting of Manderley, the perfect mise-en-scéne for a suffocating onset of tension. Mirrored halls, tactile velvets, steely palettes of greys and blues and dramatic flourishes of thirties glamour (fringed velvet lampshades and acres of satin sheets) at every turn provide inspiration aplenty. If it all set your heart racing: here’s how to recreate some Thirties’ glamour in your own home.
