As we near the end of a year filled with uncertainty, we could all do with a bit of festive cheer. Luckily London excels in this area, with twinkling winter pop-ups sprinkled across the city. From ski-inspired Alpine lodges to riverside igloos, read on for our pick of the ones worth visiting.

Miracle at Henrietta

Miracle at Henrietta Hotel

US-born festive pop-up Miracle returns to Covent Garden’s Henrietta Hotel for its third year running this month. A project from Experimental Group, Miracle will appear on the hotel’s mezzanine as a 70s-style Christmas home, complete with retro decorations, coloured lights and an oversized fireplace. Within this cosy setting guests can enjoy a selection of festive drinks concoctions courtesy of Experimental Cocktail Club alumni Nico de Soto, such as the Bad Santa: mulled red wine with Tawney Port, orange liqueur and spices. 16 November – 23 December, henriettahotel.com

Jimmy Garcia’s Winter Lodge

You might not be able to go skiing this winter, but Jimmy Garcia is bringing the Alps to you with his annual riverside snow globes. Book one out for you and your bubble to feast on an alpine-inspired menu of French onion soup, flat iron steaks, truffles and spiced hot churros – all while enjoying views of the Thames. Alternatively, book a table at Jimmy’s log cabin Refuge Restaurant, a twinkling dining room serving up fondue and flasks of hot cocktails. Miracle at 34

34 Mayfair

Prepare to be dazzled at 34 Mayfair, which has been given a Christmas glow up featuring a whopping 14,000 decorations. Designed by Jane Wadham and running in partnership with Nyetimber, the glittering installation covers every inch of the restaurant’s ceiling and walls. Inside this festive retreat, diners will enjoy a luxurious menu of wagyu steak from the Rotisserie grill, white truffle pizza and Peking duck with pancakes – washed down with a glass of sparkling wine. 34-restaurant.co.uk

Transport yourself to the slopes at the Montague Ski Lodge, a heated outdoor space decked out with pine trees, ski racks, piste maps and strings of lanterns. The central bar serves up a selection of après-themed drinks, from hot spiced cider to boozy hot chocolate. An ‘Individual Ski Pass’ costs £40 and will give you access to the lodge for an hour and a half, three drinks and a festive platter featuring mini turkey schnitzel, bratwurst sausage and deep-fried camembert. Immersive cinema group Backyard Cinema returns with a winter pop-up at its Wandsworth home, Capital Studios. Enter through Dr Portelli’s mysterious Curiosity Shop before being transported to the enchanted forest via an indoor waterfall. Cosy up on one of the giant beanbags and settle down to your favourite Christmas film – screenings include It’s A Wonderful Life, The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Holiday. One of the capital’s biggest outdoor drinking venues, Pergola Paddington is back with its winter edition: Miracle on Kingdom Street. They’ve gone all out with the décor: think log fires, Christmas trees and a backdrop of snow-covered hills, with eight cosy winter lodges complete with blankets, cheese fondue kits and their own private bar. Don’t worry about getting cold: there’s a full heating system, plus a warming drinks menu featuring mulled wine, hot toddies and spiced cider.
