Music Festivals in London: What’s Officially Cancelled?
British Summer Time – Cancelled
Hyde Park is set to be hearing some serious belters this summer, with performances from Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Little Mix on the cards. Held across two weekends, British Summer Time has been running for six years since kicking off back in 2013 with The Rolling Stones. It’s seen performances from numerous legendary names over the years, including Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez and Lionel Richie – who last year returned for a special guest performance with none other than Stevie Wonder.
Where? Hyde Park
When? 3-12 July
A statement via the website reads:
‘It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to cancel BST Hyde Park 2020.
‘After closely following government actions and statements during the COVID 19 pandemic, as well as consulting with our partners The Royal Parks and wider agencies, we have concluded that this is the only possible outcome. This would have been the 8th year of this event and we were looking forward to putting on amazing, unique shows for hundreds of thousands of fans in the world’s greatest outdoor venue. But safety always comes first.’
Lovebox – Cancelled
Since being founded by DJ Groove Armada 16 years ago, Lovebox has established itself as the dance music event of the summer. This summer, it’s set to return to its new west London location for the third year running, with Tyler, The Creator, Disclosure, Jorja Smith and Khalid all due to feature. The festival appears to be going ahead at this point.
Where? Gunnersbury Park
When? 12-14 June
A festival update on the website reads:
It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that Lovebox 2020 will no longer be taking place this year.
We’ve been closely monitoring this unprecedented situation and it has become clear that it’s just not possible for this year’s festival to go ahead.
The entire Lovebox family was so excited to share with you the best line-up in our history and to extend the Lovebox vibe across 3 days this year and we send our apologies to everyone who was looking forward to it as much as we were.
Wireless
One of the most well-known festivals on the London calendar, Wireless is a celebration of the newest and best in hip hop, grime and R&B. This year festival-goers are prepping to see A$ap Rocky, Skepta, Burna Boy and Meek Mill take to the stage – and it appears to be going ahead.
Where? Finsbury Park
When? 3-5 July
A statement via the website reads:
‘At this time, Wireless is going ahead as planned. Please be assured that the safety and health of all staff and visitors, is our main priority and we are implementing recommendations and instructions appropriately.’
South West Four
What began as a dance party for Clapham locals is now a mega music festival, drawing in big names like Tinie Tempah and Craig David. Taking place over the August bank holiday weekend, the weekender appears to be going ahead, with a line-up featuring a wide range of music genres, from electronic to pop – so it’s a good compromise for groups with differing tastes.
Where? Clapham Common
When? 29-30 August
Somerset House Summer Series – Cancelled
Catch acts like Gossip, Nao, Doves and Parcels amid the neoclassical courtyard of Somerset House, London’s iconic 18th century building sitting on the bank of the Thames. The annual Summer Series offers a mixed bag of acts, with a line-up straddling soul, hip-hop, and funk music. Expect cool crowds in elegant settings. Whilst Somerset House is currently closed until at least 12th April, there has been no news as of yet regarding the summer festival. A statement on the website reads:
‘We’re working hard with all our artistic collaborators and producing partners to be able to share our cultural programme in other ways during this period.’
Where? Somerset House
When? 9-19 July
A statement via the website reads:
‘It is with much regret and disappointment that we announce that this year’s Summer Series at Somerset House with American Express will not take place. In light of the unprecedented situation, it has become clear that it is not possible to go ahead, and it is in the best interests of our artists and audiences to bring clarity to the situation and cancel this year’s events.’
