The home must reflect your personality and character. This is an interior styling mantra I have been repeating here on Happy Interior Blog over the years. I am still a firm believer of this mantra, but this crazy year 2020 made me think about how much do the times we live in define our homes? Do we change our homes according to the circumstances we live in? If so, then this year was the perfect moment to observe the reflections of social circumstances dictated by the global pandemic on our homes and how we choose to live in our personal spaces.

The recently organized 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen showed a beautiful example of what I mean. Danish design brand New Works worked with the famous interior stylist Lotta Agaton to create TERRA, a residence for grounding. TERRA was a temporary apartment in the heart of Copenhagen showcasing New Work’s latest collection in combination with the Swedish bed maker Hästens.

The apartment was an epitome of tranquility and inner balance, a space that enabled both escape and connection. The home represented a safe haven from turbulent times full of insecurities, but it also highlighted the importance of social connections in a home. A highly relevant topic in times of social distancing and our growing desire for social interaction with beloved ones.

The interior styling boasted with soft hues of dusty olive and calming grey meeting natural oak, textured wool and rippled glass to communicate a lifestyle that harmoniously connects people, objects and the environment. Lotta Agaton worked her magic into this magnificent space with beautiful and sculptural objects from New Work’s latest collection. The entire apartment exudes an air of serenity and seems to be deeply  grounded in honest materials, natural textures and sculptural forms.

I am well aware of the fact that probably none or just a few of us have such a beautiful space to call their home. High stuccoed ceilings, wooden fishbone parquet, big windows. Neither do I. But this is not meant to be a showcase of something you won’t achieve at home. It is more an inspirational spark to trigger new ideas for your own home. How do you feel in these crazy times in your space? Is it giving you comfort, the feeling of safety, but equally giving you the possibility of social interaction in this crazy year? If not, what could you change to get to this point? I am now thinking about this very question for myself. And yes, I think there will be changes coming in my apartment too. I hear the call for more serenity and simplicity. And you?
