With the advent of micro trips and wellness travel trends from yoga breaks to silent retreats (yes, entire weeks spent in silence), it can feel like there’s no place for the lowly beach break in your leisure schedule anymore. (The beach holiday is dead. Long live the beach holiday!) We’re not ready to give up on sun, sea and sand just yet, so once you’ve booked those flights to sunny climes, consider this your guide to what to pack for a beach holiday.
What to Pack for a Beach Holiday
We won’t bore you with all the holiday must-haves (if you forget your passport or phone charger, we take no responsibility) – these are your sartorial essentials only…
Swimwear
Lilliput & Felix Anastasia Ruffle Bikini, £115, lilliputandfelix.com
One of our favourite Sustainable Swimwear Brands, British swim and beachwear brand Lilliput & Felix has Positive Luxury’s Butterfly Mark for its commitment to social and environmental sustainability. The pieces are sustainably woven to order to reduce waste, and this Anastasia retro gingham bikini is absolutely adorable.

Sunglasses
Le Specs + Adam Selman The Prowler cat-eye acetate sunglasses, £75, harveynichols.com
You’ll spend most of your beach break wearing very little, so make sure your accessories are on point. Pack at least two pairs of sunglasses for your beach break, ideally one ‘classic’ (think a Wayfarer or a cat eye) and one fashion-forward selection for when you want to jazz things up. Le Specs were made for jazzing life up; Adam Selman’s collections with the brand come in a host of show-stopping shapes and colours.

Beach Holiday Cover Up
Lelloue Black & White Stripes Jumpsuit, €679, lelloue.com
Rather than packing your case with expensive evening wear that you’ll wear for a couple of hours at dinner, splash out on a really exceptional beach cover up that you’ll wear every day at breakfast and lunch and for whatever else calls you away from your sun lounger. This black and white striped jumpsuit will be equally at home by the pool or for evening cocktails (just add jewels).

Sun Hat
Sensi Sudio Hippie straw Panama hat, £140, harveynichols.com
If you happen to be staying somewhere that sells woven straw hats for a couple of pounds straight off the beach, fantastic. If not, ensure you’re prepared with this incredibly chic striped Panama hat by Sensi Studio.

Beach Bag
Nannacay Medium Raffia Malie Bag, £225, harrods.com
The perfect in-betweeny size for fitting a book, sunglasses, room key, phone and suncream in for the day and petite enough to double as an evening bag, this Nannacay bag just might be the perfect holiday carry-all.

Water Bottle
WAKEcup Water Bottle, £23, selfridges.com
There’s just no reason to buy bottled water for your travels anymore. Read our guide on travelling more sustainably for more tips on making sure you’re choosing the best option for drinking water, wherever you are, and pack one of these bamboo water bottles to top up, wherever you are.

Dress
RIXO x Sabina Socol Clarisse dress, £255, rixo.co.uk
Throw a few of your tried and tested evening favourites in for dinners and drinks, but pack one special piece to wear on the final night or the biggest treat dinner. If we could, we’d pack every single piece from the RIXO x Sabina Socol collection for our next beach holiday, but if we have to pick one, this hot pink leopard mini dress is just dying to be worn with a shell bracelet and a pina colada (accessorised with a tiny orange umbrella).

Evening Bag
LPA Amelie Belt Bag, £182, revolve.com
When packing space is limited, you’ll need an evening bag that will work with any outfit. This summery LPA belt bag can be worn slung round the waist or over the shoulder to fit your dress / mood.

Denim Shorts
Boyish Monty relaxed-fit high-rise ripped denim shorts, £130, selfridges.com
Just like finding the perfect pair of jeans, locating the perfect summer short can instantly transform your holiday wardrobe. This Boyish high-rise, relaxed fit version will be worn time after time (after time). Pair with a band tee or slubby vest for daytime and switch to an off-shoulder ruffled top and heels for dinner.

Pyjamas
Desmond & Dempsey Deia Print Set, £120, desmondanddempsey.com
It’s a toss up between how much time you’ll spend on the beach vs in bed on your beach break. Tip the balance in favour of more shut eye by packing the most cute and comfy pyjamas on the market. Desmond & Dempsey have countless options worth hitting snooze for.

Scarf
Lily & Lionel Safari Scarf, £100, lilyandlionel.com
Pack at least one lightweight, oversized scarf. It will act as aeroplane blanket, beach towel, sarong and, ahem, actual scarf, throughout your beach break. This Lily & Lionel leopard print is a classic.

Walking Shoes
Hotter Walk Sandals, £75, hotter.com
If you can drag yourself away from the pool, there are probably some pretty hills, woods or cliffs to explore, so you’ll be needing some practical (but on-trend) footwear. Enter the dad sandal, the surprise summer trend that will keep your feet oh-so-happy. These ones come in four colourways, are super light and comfortable and will give an edge to your floral sundress.
