What does #beingathome mean to you?

It is this special feeling we only have when at home – #beingathome is more than just feeling comfortable and safe. Actually, being at home is being all in line with yourself. Your personality, your liking, your love and desire. Also, #beingathome (or as we say in German #zuhausesein) is where we express ourselves fully. We are who we are, we are fully present, we are creative, we are relaxed and we are free of social constraints. I am a firm believer in the power of a beautiful home. One that speaks to you. So in order to feel all the aforementioned sentiments, I think you need a personal and beautiful home. The German association of the furniture industry VDM launches a photo contest to celebrate the feeling of #beingathome or in German #zuhausesein. And I am honored to be one of nine European bloggers to co-host this contest and participate as a jury member. But let me give you the full details.

This photo contest invites ALL of you, no matter where you live, to join in and show us what #beingathome means to you. Starting today you have two weeks (until August 18th 2019 midnight CET) to share a picture that shows this feeling of #zuhausesein or #beingathome. To make the things a bit more easy, ten categories have been defined along with one piece of German furniture design that will be the prize for the winner of each category:

1. Outdoor Living. Prize: Bowl ‘SK 07 Ritual’ by Janua
2. Tiny Spaces. Prize: Table lamp ‘Super Light’ in black by Bordbar
3. The hallway – the entrance to your home. Prize: Wardrobe ‘Line’ in one of the three colors by Schönbuch
4. Kitchen Lover. Prize: Lamp ‘Fabella’ in white by Caussa
5. Relaxed Sleeping. Prize: Bedside table ‘Pfeife’ by Vitamin Design
6. The living room – my private refuge. Prize: Stool ‘Rolf Benz 953’ in anthracite by Rolf Benz
7. The bathroom – the private wellness oasis. Prize: Shelf ‘L-Cube’ in your chosen finishing by Duravit
8. Living with kids. Prize: Stool ‘Birdy’ in blue by Hülsta
9. Working at home. Prize: Free swinging chair in white/green by Tojo
10. Other forms of living (e.g. cabin, trailer etc.). Prize: Sidetable ‘S18’ by Thonet

Every participant can join in with one photo per category which means that you can participate with a maximum of 10 pictures. Afterwards, a jury will pick the winner of each category and oh will you be in for a treat if you win! Let me tell you what will be waiting for you. Every winner will get the following:

• One piece of furniture from a German furniture maker as defined by category (see the list of categories and images)
• Two tickets plus one overnight stay for the imm cologne 2020
• Integration of your winner photo at the photo exhibit at the imm 2020 in Cologne
• Integration of your winner photo in the ‘Deutsches Design Buch 2020’ (German Design Book 2020)

So now, what do you have to do exactly? It is simple! Just share one photo for one of the above mentioned categories showing what #beingathome means to you (as mentioned you can also send/share one photo per category so in total 10 photos). Share the photo on your Instagram channel using the hashtags #beingathome and #zuhausesein and tag @zuhausesein_VDM. Additionally, please email your photo (in 300 dpi) to zuhausesein@real-communications.com with the following information:

• Category name for your photo
• Your full name
• Your birthday (you need to be 18 years +)
• Your country of residence
• Phone number and email address
• Your social media handles/names (e.g. on Instagram, Facebook etc.)

As a pariticipant of the photo contest, please go and like the the Facebook page of the contest and the follow the Instagram and/or Twitter channel, whatever you prefer or use.

Enough said! Now get your smartphone or camera and snap that feeling of #beingathome for one of the 10 categories. And if you are one of the 10 lucky winners, I will meet you at the imm 2020 in Cologne, Germany, maybe! How cool would that be! I can’t wait to see what you all will share! Good luck!
