London’s Best Hotel Breakfasts

Gone are the days of disappointing continental buffets. These days hotels across the capital are serving some of the best breakfasts in the city, from luxurious caviar brunches to unlimited sushi sessions. Here’s our guide to the best hotel breakfasts in London…

Four Seasons Hotel London, Park Lane

Four Seasons Park Lane

If you’re avocado-on-toasted out and disillusioned by predictable egg renditions, rather than look for the next best thing why not summon a yesteryear 5 star glamour with a woke bent and indulgent British and Italian delights. Sounds like an ambitious mix. It is, and Four Seasons Park Lane has risen to the challenge. Their Ultimate Sunday Brunch Experience still satiates the egg-expectations of budding brunchers, with various creative iterations, while Executive Chef, Romould Feger puts on quite the spread. The menu is awash with British fare and Italian classics, moulded to suit the brunch template – think mushroom crispelles, meatballs, shaved porchetta sandwiches and seafood platters – while an Italian counter takes guests on a tour of Italy, with tasty tapas plates to show for it. The show begins with tender olive brioche and closes with an irresistible pudding stand showcasing tiramisu, eclairs and other sweet Italian and French fancies – oiled throughout by free-flowing Ruinart, of course.

Claridge’s

Claridges' Hotel London.

It doesn’t get much more iconic than the eternally elegant Claridge’s. Since its opening in 1854, the hotel has drawn in an endless list of famous faces – among its clientele are Elizabeth Taylor, Madonna and The Queen. As expected from a hotel of this calibre, service is second-to-none. Breakfast is served in the Foyer, a glamorous space with a grand piano, art deco mirrors dotted around the walls and a Chihuly sculpture hanging from the ceiling like a chandelier. The extensive menu features a selection of set breakfasts from around the world: the Middle Eastern, for instance, features Burford brown eggs, hummus, labneh and tabbouleh, while the Chinese involves pork gyoza, prawn dim sum and century duck egg. There are plenty of more traditional options too, from the light (quinoa porridge, chia bowls and granola) to the indulgent – the pancakes with Cornish clotted cream and maple syrup are the stuff of dreams.

Chiltern Firehouse

Chiltern Firehouse

Marylebone’s Chiltern Firehouse is notoriously hard to book, but word on the street says it’s easier to nab a table in the mornings. Their breakfast menu includes a selection of classics with a luxury edge: the porridge is infused with vanilla, while soft boiled eggs are served with Ogleshield cheese and truffle soldiers. Expect bold flavours and creative combinations: black truffle scrambled eggs, lobster & crab omelette and Pastel de Nata French Toast all feature, alongside a selection of freshly pressed juices, Bloody Marys and Champagne cocktails.

Malibu Kitchen at The Ned

Malibu Kitchen

Within the grand banking hall of members club and hotel The Ned you’ll find nine different restaurants, serving everything from Italian to Asian-Pacific cuisine. All are lovely, but for breakfast our favourite spot is the Californian-inspired Malibu Kitchen, an effortlessly trendy space with a menu to match. There’s a focus on healthy, nutritious food: bee pollen, chia seeds and kimchi all feature – but it’s by no means pretentious. Dishes are bright and cheerful, with highlights including turmeric pancakes with coconut, banana, macadamia & almond butter; and an open faced omelette with spinach, kale, prosciutto and comté.

The Ritz

The Ritz Restaurant Interior

With glittering chandeliers, marble windows and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Green Park, The Ritz Restaurant is often hailed as one of the world’s most beautiful dining rooms. Unsurprisingly, breakfast here is a rather lavish affair – particularly if you opt for one of the ‘prestige’ offerings. The Oscietra Caviar Breakfast served with a choice of omelette or scrambled eggs, for instance, will set you back a whopping £300. Elsewhere on the menu, however, you’ll find more traditional (and slightly more affordable) breakfast options, such as Eggs Benedict, poached smoked haddock, and American style pancakes.

Nobu Shoreditch

Nobu Hotel

Nobu launched its first ever Sunday Brunch last year at its Shoreditch hotel, and it’s pretty spectacular. Tuck into an unlimited array of sushi, sashimi, oysters, takati and more – but don’t go overboard, because this is only the beginning. You’ll also be served three rounds of sharing dishes, from gyoza to ribs to tempura, before it’s time to head back to the Brunch Bar to get stuck into the Nobu-style desserts. Our advice? Go hungry, and wear loose clothing…

More Bottomless Brunches

Aqua Shard

Aqua Shard

For breakfast with a view, Aqua Shard is the crème de la crème. Located on the 31st floor of the city’s tallest building, this upscale restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows boasting magnificent panoramas of the city. You could go here for these alone – but luckily the breakfast is delicious too. Sample dishes include a stellar full English, complete with Wiltshire back bacon, pork & leek sausage, Portobello mushrooms, free-range eggs and toasted sourdough, with a veggie alternative also available. There’s also a bakery section serving Danish pastries and breakfast muffins, and health foodies are well-catered for with dishes like egg white omelette, quinoa salad and avocado on toast.

The Montagu Kitchen

The Montagu Kitchen

The Montagu Kitchen, found within the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, recently launched their new Sunday Garden Brunch, inspired by the National Trust’s Chartwell House and Garden, Winston Churchill’s former residence.  Opt for a brunch classic like Eggs Benedict or go for something more unique…oysters for breakfast anyone? Dishes draw on seasonal British produce, with an option to go bottomless.
