Visitors will be taken on a multi sensory journey through the food cycle at the V&A’s new exhibition, Food: Bigger than the Plate, opening in May 2019. The exhibition will explore how the way we grow, distribute and experience food is changing – topics of increasing global interest and debate. There will be over 70 projects and collaborations from artists, designers, chefs, farmers, and local communities, with sections split into: ‘Compost’, ‘Farming’, ‘Trading’ and ‘Eating.’

Highlights will include Urban Mushroom Farm, an installation illustrating the idea of a circular economy using waste coffee grounds to grow edible Oyster mushrooms; real cheese made from human bacteria; and The Sausage of the Future which investigates a more sustainable approach to eating protein. Other projects explore how the pleasure of cooking and eating connects us culturally, socially and politically, with works from Ferran Adrià, Michael Rakowitz, Lubaina Himid and Grizedale Arts among others. 18 May-20 October 2019

The V&A is curating the first international retrospective of iconic British designer Mary Quant in almost 50 years. With over 200 garments and accessories including unseen pieces from her archive, the exhibition will explore the years between 1955 and 1975 in which Quant launched a fashion revolution on the British high street. One of Britain’s most influential designers, Quant is known for her bright, playful clothes, from the decade-defining mini skirt to vibrant tights, popularised by the likes of Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton.
