As winter months of lockdown approach, and we wait for a time when we can safely enjoy merriment in our favourite pubs and bars again – we’ll be dreaming of a beautifully-designed (and very well stocked) home wine cellar instead. From contemporary creations spiralling up from the floor to feature ‘wine walls’ and Etruscan-style traditional caves, these beautifully-designed bespoke wine rooms would be the perfect place to store your wine stash – and the ultimate home luxury. Read on below for C&TH‘s inspiration for wine cellars that we’d definitely opt to spend our winter lockdowns in.

Featuring a slick tasting area and plenty of storage, Smallbone’s Mullock wine room is fit for royalty. Design features like backlit shelving are also ideal for displaying prize vintages and storing glassware for home tasting sessions.
LG Signature wine cellar, from £5,999. lg.com
A must have for the techy wine lover – LG Signature’s wine cellar features LED shelf lighting, SmartThinQ technology with voice activated commands and humidity control. Plus, it’s UV resistant to protect the flavour profiles of your wine.
Alhadeff Architects, Todi. alhadeff.com
This traditional wine cellar is designed by Milan and London-based Alhadeff Architects, and resides in a converted oil mill in Todi. Umbrian limestone and double height ceilings make it exactly the kind of environment we’d happily spend a few hours quaffing Chianti in.
Cellar Maison, SW4. cellarmaison.com
Wine collections have traditionally been hidden away in cellars to preserve flavour profiles, but new technology means it’s far easier to store your collection above ground now. This curved glass design in SW4 by Cellar Maison is the consummate showstopper.
Smallbone, wine wall. smallbone.co.uk
Need quick access to the Chablis? A wine wall is the way forward. Meeting the demand for a space to display fine vintages and simultaneously keep them to hand for entertaining – Smallbone’s wine wall features a storage system that replicates the conditions of a traditional cellar environment. A Wine Guardian conditioning unit is built in, along with UV-stable tinted frameless glass.

This clever design by Cable Wine Systems doubles as a room divider with floor-to-ceiling glass doors, seamlessly integrating with contemporary open plan surroundings.

LG signature’s wine fridge fits perfectly into more modern settings like city pied-á-terres and penthouses.

If you have the square footage at your disposal (and you’re a true vinophile), the ultimate dream is this wine cellar which is wrapped around its own tasting area. A wine room designed to truly take dinner parties to new heights.
Cellar Maison, Surrey. cellarmaison.com
Created for a private estate in Surrey, this bespoke wine room was built to hold 1300 bottles. Lucy Swallow designed the interior of the property, with grey washed oak, stainless steel, white polished marble all echoed in the design of the wine room, and a backlit feature wall. Temperature and humidity control are also inbuilt, with a specialist insulated cellar door which was made to match the joinery.

A little more pressed for room? We love the clever use of dead below-stairs space in this compact cellar. The final design also creates visual impact, demonstrating how to conjure interest to a space that might usually be overlooked.

Wine cellar design collides with optical illusion in this walk-in glass cabinet. Slick enough to incorporate into an open plan living area, while making use of space and scale.

Trying to configure a wine room into a contemporary barn conversion? take a leaf from this project by Cellar Maison. Double height racks and vertical lines work with the natural proportions of the room – with barn-style beams incorporated into the design and shelving.

Backlighting, glass, and wire cabling are all elements that help to create drama and intrigue in this modern art-styled wine room, while also creating the illusion that the bottles are floating in mid air.
Smallbone. smallbone.co.uk
We love the 1920s vintage accents in the home bar of this Smallbone-designed bespoke wine cellar. A marble-effect statement bar is offset with dulled brass and plush, dusky-blue velvet stools. A private wine room fit for the Orient Express.
Cellar Maison, Surrey. cellarmaison.com
This slick, compact wine room integrates seamlessly into the monochrome scheme of a property in Surrey, where Cellar Maison worked with interior designer Lucy Swallow Interiors.
Michelle Nussbaumer, Shambala Warehouse. michellenussbaumer.com
This Michelle Nussbaumers take is one for the eclectic wine lover. Departing from more masculine style, Turkish design influences are incorporated with playful splashes of colour, a contrasting graphic wallpaper and geometric cabinetry.
