Richard Bainbridge is chef patron of three AA Rosette-awarded restaurant Benedicts in the heart of Norwich, a winner and veteran judge of BBC’s Great British Menu, and a regular face on Saturday Morning Kitchen. Here he shares his top food spots in Norfolk.

Neptune, North Norfolk Coast

Neptune is a stone’s throw from the beach at Old Hunstanton and is run by husband and wife team Jackie and Kevin Mangeolles. The hospitality you get there is second to none, and the fantastic food is prepared from the finest produce Norfolk has to offer in its small 14-cover dining room. There are also four beautiful bedrooms, and it’s an ideal place to stay for exploring the area.

Siding, Melton Constable

Siding is located in an old railway warehouse. They bake the most wonderful breads and pastries every morning; it’s a great family friendly place to go – the children love to watch the bakers at work. It’s also a roastery and the coffee is delicious.

Norwich Market, Norwich

The market has a strong standing on the street food scene. You could spend a whole day there eating everything from great Thai food to bao buns, pulled pork sandwiches and the most amazing cheese stalls.

Eric’s Fish & Chip Shop, Holt

The batter here is absolutely sensational. My favourite dish is their hot chicken wings and homemade hot sauce, and the deep-fried Mars Bars and jam sandwiches in sweet batter are my absolute guilty pleasure.

Assembly House, Norwich

If you want to treat your mum this is grand house does the very best quintessential afternoon tea with delicious cakes and scones. It’s also a hotel and the bedrooms are lovely.
